Di was born, grew up and worked in Manchester, before moving to the South Lakes area in 1987, when her first son was 8 months old. Breathtaken by the beauty of the area and overwhelmed everyday, by the changing scenery, particularly the colours and shapes of the mountains, Di and her baby would explore whenever there was an opportunity.

Di has always had a love for plants, especially flowering plants.  She has often been told that  perhaps her eyes’ colour sensitivity is more concentrated than the average person, leading to a greater enjoyment of bright colours and objects. Her husband, Rob, who sadly passed away in 2020, from brain tumour disease, was convinced she had an LSD brain….without taking LSD!! Maybe he was right, as she is drawn to and often feels compelled to paint, with very bright colours. Her work has been described by many as unashamedly bright, upbeat and cheerful.

Initially creating her own acrylic paintings to brighten the family home, after being encouraged to do so by her husband, it was only when a local artist saw her work that she began painting more regularly, for other people to enjoy. Di has received lovely feedback from people who have her paintings on their walls, who have enjoyed feelings of positivity, happiness, energy and love, evoked by her paintings.

Due to the impact of her husband’s passing, of Covid and the many changes in life, Di has increasingly sought solace in the actual process of painting. Consequently her work has been expressed differently, because of the various emotions she has felt. The process of experimenting with various approaches and materials has provided an opportunity for Di to feel more free to express her feelings and emotions, but has also contributed to the originality value of her art.

Much of her work has been inspired about by the love she is grateful to enjoy, the tenderness felt and also by the deep loss suffered. Some work is about gratitude, thankfulness, the landscapes she has explored, the sounds heard and the meaningful interactions experienced.

Di’s art, including paintings and painted glassware has been exhibited in a variety of venues, including Kendal museum, Barrow Dock museum, Brockhole visitor centre on Windermere, Kendal Brewery Arts Centre and Space2Create.

Di hopes you enjoy perusing her work and thanks you for your interest.
